The funding will pay for the employment of a Project Co-ordinator to support the Project Manager (currently only staff member). The charity supports both men and women who are having suicidal thoughts but have a strong focus on ensuring the service reaches men as statistically men are more at risk of suicide and are less likely to ask for help from statutory services. The service works closely with organisations in Essex who come into contact with high risk clients such as CAB Social Prescribers DWP drug and alcohol services local foodbanks housing options team and social care teams. Volunteers talk openly about suicidal feelings and are specifically trained (by another suicide specific service) to support people with suicidal feelings rather than mental health in general. They do not provide a clinical service but use a peer support model. They also support individuals who are using other services but are still in need of extra support.
