The funding will deliver a project called HEARTS (Helping each asylum seeker and refugee to settle) which will benefit young asylum seekers and refugees (ASR) aged between 15 and 25 years in Leeds Bradford and Wakefield. The project aims to ensure that young people are able to access appropriate support and to positively integrate into their West Yorkshire communities. It will promote wellbeing and empowerment among a group of people who have often experienced a combination of trauma immigration issues safeguarding concerns and poor mental health. The HEARTS project will include entitlements awareness mentoring/peer mentoring orientation and prevention work aimed at reducing the risks of exploitation and risky behaviour participation groups which will enable ASR young people to lead conversations with decision-makers raising awareness/delivering training to professionals and working with local authorities to improve systems affecting ASR young people.
