This project aims to support vulnerable families with children aged five to 13 by means of a volunteer befriender scheme. Volunteers are trained to work with parents and children who are struggling to cope with severe challenges. The emphasis is on helping families to prevent a problem reaching crisis point, which is the stage where statutory agencies can step in. Mainly volunteers visit families in their homes, but they also might help a child with reading, swimming or simply spend time talking to them.
