Project overview

Newport Chinese Community Centre project called Active Volunteering Gwent will offer an outreach, intergenerational, volunteering service to befriend elderly Chinese people who are isolated in the community. It will also continue to provide a multilingual advocacy, advice and information service to Chinese residents living in Newport. The project will benefit around 100 older Chinese people who have language barriers through volunteer engagement which will impact on their mental health and wellbeing. 20 young volunteers will be supported through tailored training to develop skills around community engagement. £95,673 over three year is for salaries, recruitment costs, training, freelance fees, travel and other expenses, marketing and communication, monitoring and evaluation, professional and legal fees, translation costs, equipment and overheads. It will also fund a part-time project manager.
