People and Places

  • Project location: Wales
  • Amount: £20,001 to £500,000
  • A decision in: 40 weeks
  • Programme status: Open to applications

We fund projects that work closely with people and communities in Wales. Your project should be accessible and respond to the issues that matter most to your community.

By community, we mean people who share an identity, interest or experience – or people who live in the same area.

In your application, you’ll need to show how your project:

  • involves your community in its development, design and delivery
  • builds on your community’s strengths, skills and experiences
  • understands what’s already happening locally, and how your work fills a gap
  • considers its environmental impact, for example, using shared transport like a minibus instead of separate car journeys

Community missions

Your project also needs to meet at least one of our missions. To help communities:

  • come together
  • help children and young people to thrive
  • enable people to live healthier lives
  • be environmentally sustainable

Choosing the right grant for your project

Medium grants

You can apply for between £20,001 and £100,000 to fund a project that runs for up to 5 years.

You can use this funding to:

  • help your organisation adapt to change or challenges
  • buy land, buildings, vehicles or pay for refurbishments (these are called capital costs). When applying for a capital grant, your project should follow the RIBA Plan of Work and be at stage 4 or higher

You can also apply for up to £50,000 towards planning a capital project. This funding can help you get your project to stage 4 of the RIBA Plan of Work.

Medium grants use a one-stage application process and usually takes around 15 weeks to get a decision.

Large grants

You can apply for between £100,001 and £500,000 to fund a project that runs for up to 5 years.

You can use this funding to:

  • help your organisation adapt to change or challenges
  • buy land, buildings, vehicles or pay for refurbishments (these are called capital costs)

Large grants use a 2 stage application process and usually takes at least 40 weeks to get a decision.
