How to apply

Get ready before you apply

Before you apply, you should do one of the following:

We’re awarding only 10 grants and expect 100 to 200 applications, so many will not be successful. We don’t want to waste your time, and this will not be your only opportunity to access health equity funding.

Start your application

Applying to join our health inequities partnership is a two-stage process.

First, complete the online application form. If you are successful at this stage, we will contact you for more information.

If you cannot apply online

If you have any communication support needs, we can offer other ways to apply, such as Easy Read or offline accessible forms. Contact us.

Closing date for applications

Applications close at midday on 26 November 2025.

What information you need to apply

You can read the full list of application questions.

Here is a summary of what we ask for:

  • what you want to do
  • how your work will achieve one of our missions. You should explain how you plan to tackle health inequities rooted in structural racism and discrimination
  • who your work will benefit, particularly communities experiencing health inequities
  • why you want to join the partnership and how you share our vision and values in our It Starts With Community strategy
  • why you are the right organisation or partnership to do this work. Tell us what you can bring to the partnership
  • details about your organisation (type of organisation and name)
  • your organisation’s finances
  • the diversity of your trustees, leadership and staff

Who needs to be named on the application

We will ask for names, home addresses, dates of birth and email addresses for 2 people. Each person must have a different email address.

These 2 people must meet the following:

  • one must be the main contact for the project
  • the other must be a senior staff member who will be legally responsible for the funding
  • both must live in the UK

They must not be related. This includes being:

  • married or in a civil partnership
  • in a long-term relationship
  • related through a long-term partner
  • living at the same address
  • related by blood

If you work with adults at risk, children or young people

You must have a policy that explains how you will keep them safe. If you get funding, you will also need to follow our safeguarding expectations for children and adults at risk

The NCVO website has advice and information on child safeguarding.

What happens after you apply

  1. We review your application against our priorities and criteria.
  2. We will tell you within 8 weeks if you are invited to the next stage. This could take longer if we receive many applications.
  3. If invited, we will ask for more information and complete some checks. This may be by phone, email or in person. Learn more about our checks.
  4. We use this information to make a decision. This stage can take 8 to 12 weeks, but we will aim to decide sooner if possible.
  5. If successful, we will contact you with the good news. If unsuccessful, we will give you feedback.
  6. If you're unsuccessful, please don’t reapply. We will not assess repeat applications.

If your application is successful

We will talk with you about next steps. Before we can pay funding, you must:

  • send us a bank statement dated within the last 3 months so we can check the account
  • sign and return our funding agreement

You will also need to take part in activities we arrange to share and develop the partnership.
