What you can spend the money on
We will fund partners between £50,000 and £1 million each year, for up to 5 years. This means organisations could receive between £250,000 and £5 million in total.
Some of the funding will also support your involvement in the partnership. You will work with other partners to strengthen each other’s impact and try out new ideas together. This could include meeting to share learning or helping decide how we use funding in the future.
You can spend the money on:
- your core costs
- work you already do
- new activities
- delivery costs for running activities that tackle health inequities
- salary costs
- transport costs and expenses
- research into current approaches to tackle health inequities, to find out what works and what does not
- other costs involved in working as our partner and helping deliver the partnership’s goals
If you are not sure, contact us.
We can also fund overheads
This could include part of your rent or insurance, or part of a salary for someone not directly working on this project, such as a senior manager or office admin.
For example, if the delivery work makes up a quarter of what your organisation does, we might fund a quarter of your overheads for that time.
This is sometimes called full cost recovery. You can read more in our guide to full cost recovery.
Funding for campaigning and political activity
We can fund campaigning and political activity, but only if:
- it is not party political. This means it must focus on policy, practice or legislation, not on supporting or opposing a political party
- it supports your organisation’s aims and benefits the public or society
We will not fund projects where political activity is the main purpose. However, we can fund projects that primarily focus on campaigning.
What we cannot fund
We cannot fund:
- costs you have already paid for (retrospective costs)
- religious activities. We can fund religious organisations, but only if the project benefits the wider community and does not include religious content
UK subsidy control commitments
Our grants come from public funds. Successful applicants must comply with the UK’s International Subsidy Control Commitments.
You should seek independent legal advice if you need more guidance.
