Funding aims

What this funding is for

This funding aims to:

  • make local services and facilities better in communities that are struggling and do not have many resources

  • help local people decide what's best for their area

  • reduce inequality and bring communities closer together

Your role if you're successful

If your application is successful, you'll manage the funding and lead the programme.

You'll also bring together residents, partners and other stakeholders so the community can make decisions together.

What you will do

You will:

  • act as a community anchor organisation, bringing local people and groups together

  • work with the community to build trust and understand local needs

  • help set up governance structures so the community can make decisions together

  • help identify a group of community leaders who residents trust to make decisions on their behalf

  • identify what training your community decision makers need, and either source this yourselves or use available central training

  • support the community's plans, which may involve hiring staff or managing contractors

  • build relationships with other stakeholders, including businesses where relevant

  • plan for sustainability from the start

What the community will do

Community members will:

  • identify makers who they trust to work on their behalf

  • work together to decide on priorities for the area

  • collectively decide how to invest the funding - this could be anything from building new community spaces to setting up youth programmes

  • plan and implement local projects, with support from you as needed
