What we’re hoping to fund

We want to fund partnership projects that get more people involved in climate action and support long-lasting change.

By climate action, we mean:

  • helping people reduce the impact of human activity on the climate
  • having a positive impact on climate
  • helping communities prepare for and adapt to the effects of climate change

How your project should approach climate action

Your project should do one of the following:

  • influence communities at a regional, national or UK level – by linking with bigger campaigns or projects that encourage people to take climate action, or by helping communities influence the decisions that affect them
  • connect climate action to everyday life – using people’s daily activities or interests to help them take action and create long-lasting change

What your project could look like

Your project might:

  • support people who are new to climate action, or who face poverty, disadvantage or discrimination
  • start with another interest or activity and use it as a way into climate action
  • test different ways to reach and engage communities
  • share a successful local approach with other areas
  • bring people together to take collective action or influence wider change

You can read our blog for examples of projects we’re likely to fund.

What we expect from your project

All projects must show how they will.

Help more people take climate action by:

  • reaching and involving more people
  • reducing barriers and creating opportunities for community-led action
  • building on what’s worked elsewhere, using evidence from other projects or initiatives
  • creating change that lasts beyond the life of the project
  • sharing what they’ve learned, to help others

Involve and support communities by:

  • responding to what matters to them
  • treating people fairly
  • supporting people affected by poverty, discrimination and disadvantage to have their say

Work in partnership by:

  • bringing together organisations from different sectors
  • including people with climate expertise
  • involving organisations that represent the communities you're working with
  • working with partners who can support engagement, storytelling, learning and impact
  • measuring and showing the difference the project has made, with expert help if needed

Projects we’re unlikely to fund

We’re unlikely to fund projects that:

  • are not delivered by a formal partnership
  • only raise awareness without helping people take action
  • do not involve or represent the communities they’re working with
  • cannot show how the project is relevant to the community
  • involve party-political activities or try to influence elections
  • promote the views or agenda of a single organisation or group
  • include work that should be funded by local or national government
  • are focused on buildings or refurbishment
  • cannot show how the project could be scaled up or repeated elsewhere

If you're not sure if you should apply

If your project does not fit with what we’re hoping to fund. You can:
