Telling local politicians about your funding

Sharing your funding news with your local politician can help:

  • them learn about your work and organisation
  • raise wider awareness of your work and organisation
  • you build a strong, lasting relationship with them

Finding local politicians

You can contact your local MP, MSP, MLA or MS to tell them about your funding. Find your local politicians by entering the postcode of your project on the Write To Them website.

Writing to your local politician

If you want to tell a local politician about your funding, your email to them should include:

  • why you are writing to them
  • a short explanation about the funded work
  • why the funding matters locally
  • an invite to see the funded work, if possible
  • how they can support your work
  • example social media posts they can use to talk about your funding news

Email subject: Cardiff Carers' Centre receives funding from The National Lottery Community Fund

Dear Jane Smith

I am writing to you to share that Family Carers' Centre has received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.

This funding will help us run peer support activities for family carers in Cardiff. Our project will support families who provide unpaid care to their loved ones. It'll help address the impact caring can have on people's health and wellbeing.

We would like you to support us by sharing our funding news on social media. Examples of social media posts you can use:

  • Fantastic to hear that @FamilyCarersCentre based in my constituency has had funding from @TNLComFundWales to help its community!
  • @FamilyCarersCentre, based in Cardiff has had £150,000 in funding from @TNLComFundWales. Thank you #NationalLottery players.

We would like to invite you to visit us to see the difference we are making in our local community. If you're interested in visiting us, email: joebloggs@familycarerscentre.org.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Joe Bloggs
