Make a positive difference to the environment

We want to fund projects that help care for the environment and respond to climate challenges. 

We’ll fund projects that: 

  • make better use of natural resources

  • help people reduce carbon emissions or save energy in everyday life

Make better use of natural resources 

You could do this by: 

  • running community repair or reuse sessions such as:

  • fixing bicycles, electrical devices or furniture

  • repairing clothes

  • making window boxes from waste wood

  • setting up organic food growing and well-being projects 

  • reducing waste and redistributing surplus food from supermarkets or shops that would otherwise go to waste 

  • working with nature to improve the local environment, such as planting trees to reduce heat in urban areas or creating rain gardens

Help people reduce carbon emissions or save energy in everyday life

You could do this by: 

  • installing solar panels or other energy-saving features in community buildings 

  • offering advice sessions or workshops to help people make small, positive changes, such as reducing waste or choosing low-carbon travel 

  • raising awareness about climate change, food choices, local growing, cooking or saving energy 

Example of projects and activities we could fund 

Opening an environmental hub with community composting

An organisation creates a new environmental hub offering activities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

As part of the project, volunteers set up and run a community composting site, helping residents reduce waste and learn practical, sustainable habits.

Example of projects and activities we cannot fund 

In-school environmental education 

A project delivers classroom-based environmental learning as part of the curriculum. It repeats content already taught in schools and does not provide any additional benefit beyond standard lessons.
