What you can spend the money on

How much funding you can ask for

You can apply for between £30,000 and £5 million. We have a total of £20 million funding and expect to fund 15 to 20 organisations.

You must finish the activities we fund by 31 March 2030. It’s ok if some of your evaluation or learning work finishes a little later.

You must have some match funding

Unlike previous strands of #iwill Fund, there’s not a fixed amount of match funding you need. So you can ask us for more money than you are able to match from other funding.

We will expect all applications to include some match funding. But we’re happy to discuss how much match funding is reasonable for you.

This could be from other fundraising, or money your organisation already has. It could also include ‘in kind’ contributions. This means things like donated equipment or people giving you their time or expertise for free.

Costs we can fund:

  • your organisation's project delivery and running costs
  • equipment
  • one-off events
  • staff costs
  • training costs
  • transport
  • utilities
  • volunteer expenses
  • evaluation costs
  • minor refurbishments

Costs we cannot fund:

  • retrospective costs (costs for things that have already happened, or you’ve already paid for)
  • alcohol
  • contingency costs, loans, endowments or interest
  • buying or doing major development to land or buildings
  • paying someone else to write your application for you
  • fundraising activities (where you use our funding to raise more money)
  • VAT you can reclaim
  • religious activities (we can fund religious organisations if their project benefits the wider community and does not include religious content)
  • statutory activities
  • activities that help children or young people with their schoolwork during school time
  • overseas travel
  • work taking place outside of the UK
  • activities that make profits for private gain
  • cash that will be given directly to individuals
  • political campaigning
