Introduction

This research explores the lasting difference National Lottery funding has made over the past 3 decades. It shares project stories to show how community-led funding has empowered people, helping them act on what matters to them, building connections, and supporting each other.

The report shows what has helped communities thrive and how funding can support long-term change.

Findings

The research found that funding has supported community organisations and helped people respond to local challenges, making a lasting difference.

The research shows that:

  • community organisations play a key role in supporting local people and services

  • small grants can have a ripple effect, helping communities lay the foundations for strong ongoing relationships and local networks

  • projects work best when communities shaped decisions and activities

  • long-term investment helps organisations grow skills, confidence and local leadership
