This page lists organisations funded by Young Start from April to June 2026. Young Start supports projects for children and young people aged 8 to 24 across Scotland. Young Start is funded by the Dormant Assets Scheme with priorities set by the Scottish Government. Funding is distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund.

South West Media Factory CIC

South West Media Factory CIC is using a £82,971 grant to run filmmaking opportunities for school leavers over 16 years old in rural Dumfries and Galloway. Young people will influence and take part in workshops. They'll gain practical skills and knowledge in:

  • script development

  • production

  • costume design

  • technical filmmaking

The project aims to help young people find work or access further education in the film industry.

Girvan Youth Trust

Girvan Youth Trust in South Ayrshire is using a £137,979 grant to continue its Streetlight Detached Youthwork project for 3 years. It will engage 200 local young people and provide support, information and advice. The project aims to improve young people's wellbeing by building positive relationships with youth workers and the community.

Golspie Youth Action Project

Golspie Youth Action Project in the Highlands is using a £100,000 grant to help around 156 young people in its rural community build:

  • confidence

  • communication

  • social skills

Activities for young people include:

  • Highland dancing

  • upcycling workshops

  • volunteering opportunities in the organisation's youth-led charity shop

The project is supported by 50 volunteers.

The Maidsafe Foundation

The Maidsafe Foundation is using a £145,500 grant to run STEM activities for children and young people aged 8 to 18 in East Ayrshire. The Powering Our Past and Future project will help 30 children and young people build stronger connections with their peers and wider community over 3 years.

Tron Theatre Ltd

Tron Theatre is using a £57,871 grant to offer theatre work experience opportunities for young people aged 14 to 18 in Glasgow. The project will run for 3 years. Participants will develop transferable skills including:

  • lighting design

  • set building

  • marketing

  • running the box office

The project aims to improve their confidence and wellbeing. The theatre will also run Our Show Your Show. This gives young people an opportunity to see and discuss theatre shows with peers.

Forres Youth Space Project SCIO

Forres Youth Space Project SCIO in Moray is using a £138,523 grant to provide youth work sessions and holiday programmes for young people aged 11 to 16. The project aims to support:

  • wellbeing

  • creative skills

  • peer socialising

The project will run for 3 years and more than 800 young people will benefit from it.

Aberfeldy Parish Church of Scotland

Aberfeldy Parish Church of Scotland is using a £123,222 grant to help young people in Perthshire to:

  • people build positive relationships

  • access new opportunities that are not available in the area

The project will offer evening and drop-in sessions over 3 years. It aims to support 800 children and young people. With 40 volunteers supporting the project.

Creetown Initiative Limited

Creetown Initiative in Dumfries and Galloway is using a £53,375 grant to continue its youth groups for young people of different ages. The groups will help participants develop life skills and take part in sports and physical activity. The project will also provide 2 day trips each year and support around 70 young people over 3 years. It will be supported by 6 volunteers.

Bright Green Nature

Bright Green Nature is using a £62,141 grant to support 20 to 40 children and young people aged 8 to 24 across the Scottish Borders. The projects aims to develop confidence, outdoor skills and a shared voice through a connection to nature. It's guided groups, Junior Rangers and Young Rewilders will get involved in conservation action through:

  • habitat restoration

  • wildlife monitoring

  • digital communication

Leadership, accreditation and mentoring opportunities will be developed, and a youth steering group will inform the project's direction.

Ullapool Sea Savers SCIO

Ullapool Sea Savers SCIO is using a £87,620 grant to expand its youth-led marine conservation programme in the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area. The project will support around 40 to 50 young people each year, over 3 years. It aims to empower young people to:

  • lead campaigns

  • develop practical solutions to conservation challenges in the area

Activities include:

  • eco-anxiety support and activism

  • citizen science

  • accessible boat trips
