Introduction

This research examines the evidence on youth social action and its impact on young people. It was carried out by the #iwill Fund Learning Hub. The aim was to understand the difference taking part makes. It’s intended to inform funders, practitioners and policymakers.

Findings

The research found that taking part in youth social action is linked to positive personal and social change. The strength of evidence varies across different areas.

The research found that:

  • participation is linked to improved confidence

  • young people develop skills linked to employment and civic and political engagement

  • evidence on long-term impact is more limited

  • there is significant gap in the evidence base around the ways in which youth social action can contribute to young people’s outcomes
