Introduction

This report responds to findings from youth-led peer research conducted by the Young Foundation. Young people carried out research into their peers' experiences and priorities. The response explains what was learned and how the Fund will act. It’s intended for funders, delivery organisations and young people.

Findings

The research found that young people face barriers to taking part. Access, inclusivity, and meaningful involvement were recurring themes.

The research found that:

  • there needs to be raised awareness of mental health provision

  • mental health provision needs to be more accessible and open to all

  • there should be more choice involved in accessing support

  • mental health support should be incorporated into community spaces

  • there should be universal provision to support day to day mental health

  • drug and alcohol abuse is a concern for young people

The response sets out practical steps to address these issues. These include strengthening youth voice, improving inclusion and reviewing funding and delivery practices.
