Introduction

This report reviews the impact of Young Brum, a youth programme delivered by InUnity across south Birmingham between 2022 and 2025. Through sports, creative activities, mentoring and personal development programmes, it supported young people to build confidence, improve wellbeing, strengthen relationships and develop skills for the future.

Findings

The report finds that Young Brum had a positive impact on more than 1,400 young people across south Birmingham.

Through mentoring, youth activities and personal development programmes, participants developed greater confidence, improved mental wellbeing, stronger social skills and a stronger sense of belonging.

Young people reported feeling more able to:

  • talk about their emotions

  • manage challenges

  • build positive relationships

Schools and families reported improvements in:

  • attendance

  • behaviour

  • self-belief

  • engagement

The report highlights particularly strong impacts in mental health, communication and helping young people feel valued and understood.

Overall, the programme demonstrates that providing safe, supportive spaces and trusted adult relationships can help young people thrive, build resilience and create more positive futures for themselves.
