Introduction

This research evaluates the Renew Wales programme. The evaluation was carried out to understand what difference the programme made and how it worked. The programme supported community groups to act on climate change and environmental sustainability.

It’s intended to inform funders, community organisations and policymakers in Wales.

Findings

The evaluation found that Renew Wales helped community groups increase confidence, skills, and local action on environmental issues. Support and mentoring were vital to progress.

The evaluation found that:

  • groups increased knowledge of climate and sustainability issues

  • mentoring strengthened planning and delivery skills

  • partnerships helped extend local reach and influence

  • small grants enabled practical local projects

The programme supported a wide range of projects, from energy saving to biodiversity and waste reduction. It also helped build stronger local networks focused on long-term change.
