Our Bright Future: Final Evaluation Report

Introduction

This final evaluation summarises what the Our Bright Future programme achieved across its 7 years. The programme brought together 31 youth and environmental projects to help young people lead environmental action, build skills and improve wellbeing.

The report is for:

• policymakers

• organisations interested in youth development and environmental impact

• researchers and evaluators

Findings

The programme created positive outcomes for young people, including improved:

• confidence and motivation

• wellbeing

• skills

• employability

• leadership

It helped young people engage in environmental action such as conservation, campaigning and community projects.

The evaluation found benefits for the natural environment through:

• habitat improvements

• increased biodiversity projects

• more young people choosing environmental career pathways

Communities also gained from:

• strengthened partnerships

• enhanced local green spaces

• youth voice

• volunteering

• local environmental improvements

The programme influenced policy and practice by demonstrating the value of youth‑led environmental action. It also did this by contributing evidence to national conversations about nature, skills and sustainability.
