Introduction
This report presents an independent evaluation of Myplace, an ecotherapy programme designed to improve wellbeing through nature‑based activities. It explains how the programme operates, who it supports, and why it’s needed.
The report is for funders, commissioners and organisations interested in nature‑based health interventions.
Methodology
The evaluation draws on a mixed‑method approach, including:
a literature review
focus groups
participant case studies
staff interviews
demographic analysis of young people and adults involved
These sources were used to understand how Myplace works and the benefits it produces.
Findings
The report found that Myplace provides structured ecotherapy activities that improve confidence, emotional resilience and mental wellbeing.
Participants valued time in nature, supportive staff and safe group environments. Many reported reduced anxiety, better coping strategies and improved social connection.
The programme successfully engaged young people with diverse needs and offered alternative support for those who struggled with traditional services. Case studies show meaningful personal change, from improved self‑esteem to re‑engagement with education or community life.
Staff highlighted the importance of consistent relationships, accessible outdoor spaces and flexible delivery tailored to individual needs.
Considerations
The findings reflect the experiences of participants engaged during the evaluation period and rely partly on self‑reported outcomes. Benefits may vary depending on individual circumstances, local delivery and access to green spaces.
The evaluation provides valuable insight into nature‑based wellbeing support but does not measure long‑term impact.
