Introduction

This research explains how the #iwill Fund has supported high-quality youth social action. Its aim was to understand what helps youth social action work well in different settings. The research is intended to inform funders, delivery organisations, and those planning youth social action programmes.

Findings

The report found that high-quality youth social action depends on two linked approaches:

  • strong programme design/delivery

  • embedding a culture of continuous learning

Quality is guided by six principles which should be integrated from the outset and supported with time and resources. Those principles are:

  • youth-led

  • challenging

  • socially impactful

  • progressive

  • embedded

  • reflective

Overall, quality youth social action emerges from consistent practice, strong organisational foundations, and long-term investment in learning, with a system that enables continuous improvement across the sector.
