Introduction

This research report explores how youth social action connects with social action involving people of all ages. It examines how these activities can work together more effectively, the barriers and opportunities involved, and how funders and organisations can support stronger links. It is aimed at funders, delivery organisations and others interested in supporting social action.

Findings

The research found that youth social action and all-ages social action often run separately but activities can be extremely similar. They are not always planned or funded in a coordinated way.

It also found that:

  • funding and policy are not always aligned

  • people use different language to describe similar work

  • strong partnerships help connect activity

  • young people are not always involved in wider decision making

  • there are opportunities to share learning across age groups

Overall, there’s scope to better connect activity across ages and strengthen long-term impact.
