Introduction
This Uk-wide annual survey of around 9000 people explores how people feel about their communities. The research looks at their priorities, concerns, and aspirations for the future. It aims to understand public views on:
inequality
community life
climate action
the support people need locally
The findings aim to help policymakers, funders, and organisations understand what matters most to people and how best to support stronger, more inclusive and more resilient communities.
Findings
The research found that many people value strong communities and local support:
at least 6 in 10 people feel part of their local community
64% of people want to contribute to their community with 50% planning to volunteer in 2024
people rated their local areas favourably for access to green spaces, overall quality of life, and education opportunities
around half of respondents feel motivated to engage in climate action, and optimistic that the worst impacts could still be prevented
people want to see more access to affordable housing and reduced poverty and deprivation. They highlighted this would bring the most benefit to the community
people want support with the cost of living, looking out for one another, reducing loneliness, and preventing youth violence
The findings show that there is a strong sense of community and willingness to get involved. However, people still need more support, especially with rising costs and inequality.
