Introduction

‘Catching the Wave’ brings together the words and slides from a shared learning event within the Women and Girls Initiative.

It’s a resource for service providers working in the women and girl’s sector.

The report offers inspiration, a historical context of the ‘women’s movement’, and strategies for influencing policy and supporting decision making.

Findings

The report connects current project work to the history of the Women’s Movement. It highlights past struggles, debates, and progress. It encourages those involved in WGI to see their work as part of a longer movement for change.

It highlights that:

  • understanding history strengthens confidence and purpose

  • shared reflection builds solidarity across projects

  • collective action has shaped policy change over time

  • influencing decision makers requires strategy and persistence

  • women’s voices must remain central in shaping systems

The report ends with practical ideas to help projects think about how to influence policy and decision makers.
