Introduction
This research explores learning from the Ageing Better programme. The programme aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation among older people. It looks at improving wellbeing and social connections. It’s intended to inform funders, policymakers, and organisations supporting older people.
Findings
The research found that community activities helped reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing among older people. Social connections improved when activities reflected people’s interests and needs.
The research found that:
involving older people helped provide better activities
partnerships helped organisations reach more isolated people
community spaces helped people build relationships and confidence
flexible approaches helped meet different local needs
trusted organisations helped engage people who felt excluded
The research also found that building trust and relationships takes time. Strong partnerships helped support long-term change.
