Pastoralist Health Development Project, South Omo, Ethiopia - Project
Project overview
The semi-nomadic tribes of South Omo in Ethiopia have very poor access to health services. One under-resourced local hospital serves a population of 390,000 and high rates of disease cause the deaths of 20 per cent of children before the age of five, few births are attended by skilled health staff, resulting in avoidable neonatal and maternal mortality. The project will address this by setting up mobile outreach health facilities accessible to over 80,000 people.
